Conclusion: Cost savings due to PC are realized for short and medium LOS but not stays >30 days. These findings suggest savings can be achieved by earlier involvement of palliative care, and support screening efforts to identify patients who can benefit from PC services early in an admission.

Comparison of peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICC) versus subcutaneously implanted port-chamber catheters by complication and cost for patients receiving chemotherapy for non-haematological malignancies – Online First – Springer

Port devices are associated with a lower risk of complications, with no difference in cost, compared to PICC lines in patients with non-haematological malignancies receiving intravenous chemotherapy.

Losing independence – the lived experience of being long-term sick-listed – Springer

Sick-listed persons experienced the process of being on long-term sickness absent as very negative. The negative experiences are linked to consequences of stopping to work, consequences of social insurance rules and to negative encounters with professionals handling the sickness absence. The positive experiences of being sick-listed were few in the present study.
